Now assignment, shaken baby syndrome, the sudden and violent shaking of an infant, often

resulting in death, was once believed to be virtually a medical diagnosis of murder.

But as Linda Pressley reports from the United States, there's now growing disquiet about

miscarriages of justice after such deaths.

At the University of Chicago, Coma Children's Hospital, Melanie Kimp gave birth to Ravonda

just 24 hours ago.

She's come to talk to Melanie, she does all new mothers, about shaken baby syndrome.

Share with me a little bit about what you know about shaken baby syndrome.

At least to like brain damage and stuff.

That's exactly right, babies cry, and they cry a lot, and we see that it peaks when

they're six to eight weeks old, and the crying can sometimes be very, very stressful.

You would never think in a million years you'd be capable of shaking the baby, but what

we see is that crying, it can get so intense and cause people to get frustrated.

And we see, unfortunately, that sometimes shaking happens.
