So the British government had hoped that the

start of the week will be dominated by King Charles's visit to the United States. We were all crossing

our fingers that Trump's weakness for royalty and old world class would take some of the post-Iran

poison out of the once special relationship. But instead, it's another assassination attempt on the

president that fills

the front pages and sucks up all the oxygen. A 31-year-old man from Torres, California, appears

to have rushed into the White House correspondence dinner at the Washington Hilton, the same hotel

where Ronald Reagan was shot in 1981. Guests hid under the tables as Secret Service agents rushed

the president and Melania Trump out of the room and subdued the man. Trump later described the hotel as not a particularly secure building and said it proved why the White House needs his monolithic ballroom. This is why we have to have all the attributes of what we're planning in the White House, he said. It's actually a larger room and it's much more secure. Ross, I mean, the bizarre thing about this is how routine it feels.
