After such a tough crossing of Australia, the promise of a rest from riding the bike was very

appealing, particularly as the weather was likely to be extremely wet and humid.

After making some more inquiries, I decided the islands such as Java and Bali were too

small for island hopping. It didn't make sense

to ship my bike to Bali, only to piddle around the island for a week before shipping it to Java and doing the same thing

again. I'd ship my bike directly to Singapore, which was much cheaper, and arranged to meet Mark in Bali.

But a ship didn't leave for three weeks, so I decided to do a tour of Western Australia,

south from Perth.

At the hostel, I'd met a wholesome, jolly German woman with a beaming smile called Simone.

We shared a room and got on well, so I asked if she would like to join me on my tour south.
