You trying to be a street cop?

Alright guys, we're gonna talk about asking passengers for ID without any reasonable

artificial suspicion, which is a question posed to me earlier by somebody and just give me a

fuel for a video for an idea for the video for the day. So we will go over a couple different cases. We'll talk about a

Supreme Court case which guys from the other states should find value in and then we'll

talk about the New Jersey case law that allows you to do such a thing. All right? So in Hornberger versus ABC at a 2002,

Here's what it says.

In the absence of reasonable grounds

to suspect criminal activity or other violation of the law,

which would probably be a motor vehicle

violation, on part of a passenger, it would be improper for an officer to demand the passenger's

identification after stopping a vehicle for a routine traffic violation.

Now, however, you were allowed to ask as a mere field inquiry. You can

always ask for ID. You may not be able to compel it from somebody, but you can always

ask. So we have a case in New Jersey State versus Syriani, it's 2002.
