Good morning. Good afternoon. Good evening, wherever you are. And welcome to the politics guys with your host, Jay Carson and Michael Baranowski.

Welcome to the politics guys. I'm Michael Baranowski, a political scientist at Northern Kentucky University.

My co-host this week, as always, is Cleveland Area Attorney and sometime Republican strategist Jay Carson.

A while back, we answered and asked the politics guys' question about the Libertarian Party.

While third parties are nearly irrelevant in the United States,

thanks to our winner-take-all system,

which makes it nearly impossible for anyone but Republicans or Democrats to win elections,

the libertarians have been popular enough to at least get on the ballot in most states.

The same can be said, though, to a lesser extent, for the Green Party.

Now, in this election, the Green Party nominee for President is Jill Stein, a 66-year-old

Harvard-educated doctor who's been a Green Party candidate for various offices since early

2000s, though he's never actually been elected.

In the past, we've discussed at greater length why third parties can't win in the United States,

and that's not going to change any time soon.

And it's a certainty that Stein, who's currently somewhere between 1% and 3% in national presidential polls,

will not be the next president.

And, of course, neither will Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson,

who's somewhere between 3% and 7 percent in the most

recent poll, certainly not helped by the fact that he seems to have trouble talking about anything

that takes place outside of the borders of the United States. But just because third parties

can't win elections doesn't mean they can't have any influence. They can, for instance, bring

attention to issues that the Democrats and Republicans aren't focusing on,. They can, for instance, bring attention to issues that the Democrats
