When I was brought on the Big Bang Theory, a lot of people felt like Sheldon Cooper should be asexual.

He shouldn't date, like this shouldn't happen.

My character got a lot of hate for it and I guess me by extension.

But what we tried to show is that there is someone for everyone.

Amy at first was written a lot more socially awkward,

but over the years we showed that she wanted to be like Penny and Bernadette and so we had that character kind of expand.

Whereas Sheldon, I think, in a lot of ways, kind of remained the same.

He had a lot of quirks. There were a lot of things he was interested in that Amy was not trains comic books

That's a really good example of a relationship that showed people really growing together so that the other person could be exactly who they wanted to.

One of my absolute favorite episodes of the Big Bang Theory

was an episode where Sheldon reveals that he has a storage unit of his entire life and it has some harder vibes but it's very

organized and it's very labeled and it was a really really sweet episode

because he was letting her into that aspect of his world,

which I think is also a really important component of dating on the spectrum.

And especially if you're a person on the spectrum who's dating someone who's not,

you want to feel a level of comfort, but it may

take years as it did with Sheldon and Amy to reveal all those things. If you're on the

autism spectrum, you're perfect exactly the way you are. And it may be a little bit more

challenging to sort of find that match, but it absolutely is possible.
