Summary
In this deep-dive "Ask George" session, Dr. George Hariri tackles a silent epidemic among high-achieving dentists: hitting massive financial milestones only to feel a sense of emptiness. If you are navigating the complex associate to owner transition or currently feel trapped by your own success, this episode serves as your ultimate survival guide for evolving from a clinical workhorse to a strategic CEO. George breaks down why traditional dental practice management often fails by focusing solely on "numbers" while ignoring the qualitative lifestyle design that prevents burnout.
We explore the three distinct stages of a dentist’s career arc and how to identify your current "bottleneck"—whether it’s patient flow, team leadership, or clinical efficiency. You will learn how to use dental business strategies to increase your "surface area of luck," ensuring that your growth is both predictable and sustainable. George also introduces the "Venn Diagram of Success," a framework for aligning your quantitative income targets with your unique ability and desire for autonomy.
Stop chasing arbitrary production numbers and start building a business that gives you energy instead of draining it. Whether you are implementing new dental growth strategies to scale to a multi-doctor facility or looking to optimize a "smart solo" setup, this episode provides the roadmap to earning a seven-figure income while working only three days a week. We discuss how to delegate the "C-level" tasks that cause anxiety and how to empower your team to handle conflict, allowing you to stay in your zone of genius.

| 0:00.0 | Welcome back to another episode of the Shared Practices podcast. And in this episode, we're going to talk about setting goals and hitting goals. We're in the new year. And so whenever I think of the new year, I always think about how, you know, everyone at the beginning of the year gets excited to have their goals and hit their goals. But there's also |
| 0:22.0 | the likelihood that, you know, you set your goals and then there's a percentage of people that |
| 0:25.7 | just won't hit them. And so I want to take this episode to talk about two different things. |
| 0:29.8 | We want to talk about setting goals, how to think about that, and then also how to execute upon |
| 0:35.0 | it. So first, let's talk about goals. Something that I've noticed |
| 0:39.2 | is that when people enter into practice ownership, there's the initial period of ownership, |
| 0:43.7 | whether you started up a location or you acquired a location, where you are really invested in |
| 0:49.4 | the growth of the practice. It's, you know, you're very driven, you're ambitious, and your goals and your focus is going |
| 0:56.1 | to be very professional, very focused on practice ownership, very focused on what you want for your |
| 1:00.4 | practice. And then there comes a time where things start to sort of turn. Either you've |
| 1:07.5 | accomplished your goals and the practice is not really able to grow, maybe a facility |
| 1:11.5 | constraint, maybe you're just very comfortable where you're at, you don't want to push to the next |
| 1:15.3 | level, or maybe you've tried to hit your goals and you've just been like, you know what, |
| 1:20.4 | I'm happy where I'm at and you kind of forget about the goals. So there's like this coasting |
| 1:25.3 | period that a lot of people go through. And then there's the other |
| 1:29.2 | side where you might be thinking about an exit. Maybe an exit's near. Maybe you're later in your |
| 1:33.9 | career thinking about retirement. And that's where maybe goals in those last five years start to |
| 1:39.2 | come back up because maybe you're thinking, okay, we'll have a couple of practices, maybe have a |
| 1:43.5 | practice. And I want to |
| 1:45.5 | maximize my enterprise value before I sell it. So like that'll set me up for a great retirement. |
| 1:51.2 | So then maybe I'm going to push a little bit more. And so those are kind of the different |
| 1:54.9 | circumstances in which somebody were to set goals. And so, you know, if you're listening to |
