What can you do to manage your own thinking?

All right, before we dig into Psalm 26, verse number two, I want to ask you to pray with me that God will be our instructor today.

Our Father, it really is that simple.

We want you to guide us as we read your word that we will understand

it and apply it rightly and well to your glory. In Jesus' name, amen. All right, friends, I

want to go back to that beginning question. How do you go about managing your own mind, your

own thinking? What we find today in Psalm 26, verse 2 is a prayer

where the psalmist is asking God for certain things. And he says here in Psalm 26, verse 2,

prove me, O Lord, and try me. Test my heart and my mind. What is he really asking for in this prayer? Well, that idea of

proving me is a phrase or an idea taken from the refining of metals. Same thing with try me or

test my heart. He's saying, put me in the fire and refine me. Show me what's really there.

And he says, to test my heart and my mind. So friends, do you see the psalmist is asking God for help

in knowing his own mind, knowing his own heart, his own motives. You see, because we are a strange
