This week I wanted to talk to Dr. John Brownstein. He's the chief innovation officer at Boston Children's Hospital, and he's a professor of biomedical informatics at Harvard Medical School.

But the reason I wanted to talk to John is not just because he's actually familiar with the Stoics. He's a very smart guy, but he's been a pioneer in what they call digital epidemiology, which utilizes digital data as sources to understand population health.

And he's really well known for his work on tracking global disease outbreaks.

He was instrumental in tracking an outbreak of cholera in 2010, Ebola in 2014 and Zika in 2015.

And he's been involved in a bunch of sort of interesting cutting edge startups like Uber. He's advised Google.

So he's an expert in looking at large swaths of data and creating actionable insights for public health officials, for individuals, for doctors, etc.
