I'm your host Kyle Thompson.

1:02.6

Let's get into it.

1:03.8

Joby Martin is good to see your face, but here's the thing, guys, if you listen to the

1:07.6

Ask a pastor slash podcaster from last month, neither one of us came prepared because we didn't know who was supposed to be asking the questions. But this month, as promised, you were supposed to be asking me the questions. But it's so bizarre oh backwards world. I forgot to even hit the record buttons initially just a second ago because I was like, yeah, yeah, hey, you're driving. So let's go, Joby. Well, I am ready. These are hot off the press, mostly from our staff members. So people that listen to the show and have questions for you, are you ready? Well, I'm ready, but just to give everyone a peek behind the curtain here, every time I ask Joe B questions on Ask a Pastor, he has not seen them. Like, if I ever have to ask him about an obscure passage of scripture, I give him a heads up. But like, neither one of us see these questions. And so there's like nothing to prepare for. So I'm a little, little scared, but I'm excited. Let's go. All right. First question is for me, why undaunted life? Why you? Why now? You ask that one all the time to authors. Oh, okay. Yeah, so why the name or why undaunted life in general? Yeah, why the, you know, kind of the purpose of the mission of it and why you, why now? Yeah, ultimately, it goes to when I was in my 20s and really started digging into the Bible for the first time myself, this was around the same time I read Wild at heart for the first time.

2:20.7

And I just saw this inequity between what manhood was portrayed as inside the church, which was ultimately don't do that stuff here.

2:29.4

And what I saw like in real life and like Jesus seemed like a real dude, not like just in the flesh, but like a dude, like a dude, like a man, like a like a bad dude, you know what I mean? Like in a good way. Don't clip that people on the internet. But like that's what I saw. And so I just got this burden in my 20s, Joby, my early 20s for like tough guys for guys that like worked with their hands for a living or fought or you know we're you know in the military or you know

2:54.2

leo or something like that for like tough guys for guys that like worked with their hands for a living or fought or you know

2:52.3

were you know in the military or you know leo or something like that i thought they might miss out on

2:57.1

who jesus was because his followers were so weak and soft and so again you know if you read

3:02.2

scripture closely that's not exactly how it works we don't have to get into all the elect and all the

3:06.2

other stuff and irresistible grace and all that. But that's where that all kind of came from. And, you know, in your early 20s, no one will trust you with anything like, you know, potato gun, much less like a new ministry. And so I kind of helped some other men's ministries get going. But they were kind of like camp-based stuff and all they wanted to do was just like you know repackaged john eldridge stuff but for you know an in-person audience and i was like okay that's fine but there's so much more that can be done and it eventually became clear that i just need to kind of do something on my own just because my engine and my brain just goes so fast i don't want to have to have a committee meeting every time we want to change the font on the website.

3:42.6

And so, like, you know, it's just kind of one of those deals that I wrote the devotional for the U-Version Bible app,

3:48.6

expecting it not to be accepted and for no one to read it. And not only was it accepted,

3:52.9

it was read and finished by tens of thousands of people. And I was like, holy cow. And so it's like,

3:58.2

I guess I have to keep doing cow. And so it's like, I guess I have to

3:58.8

keep doing this. And so here we are. But what? I released that 10 years ago, Joby. That was in 2016 when
