And I'm Jen Yamato. This week on episode four of our show, comedian Margaret Cho talks about her groundbreaking career and

what it's like to have kicked the door open for the Asian Americans who came

after her. Like I feel like oh I actually went from like very current to very old school Asian which is great

you know kind of an elder thing of like Empress Dowager vibe like if I have some turtle soup

brewing on the side.

I love Margaret Show and I also love what she's meant to this community because growing up, she

was pretty much the only Asian face I even saw on TV when she was starring on her 1990 sitcom All-American

Girl.

Man, that was a different era.

Like the way people talked about being Asian was very different.

I mean, a lot of people didn't really talk about it at all.

Right people didn't talk about it they didn't see it and they certainly weren't

doing comedy about it like Margaret was doing at a time in her career way before

crazy rich Asians before fresh off the boat. at a time in her career way before Crazy Rich Asians,

before fresh off the boat, and before this new era

of seeing at least more Asian faces in film and TV.
