part two with Lindsay. There was a general theme that came up about the fact that we aren't testing theories.

That Evosike is not testing theories?

Yeah, that our methods don't lend themselves to actually testing theories.

There's a couple of things to be said about this.

Sure.

One is that in hypothesis testing,

or like when you're doing science,

it's true to say that a study does not

test a theory that is actually true but the way in which is true is not how it was

being presented I don't think. So a theory is like this broad general framework for synthesizing

a bunch of different observations. So like evolutionary theory, for instance, right? That's like a very

broad thing, right? A very broad set of principles that describes a whole lot of things. No individual

study is directly testing evolutionary theory.

Rather, we're deriving hypotheses and then from that predictions from this theory
