It's nearly four months since Russia invaded Ukraine.

While Ukrainians who fled the capital

of Kiev have slowly been returning, the situation in eastern Ukraine is very different.

The sound of fighting just a few days ago in several donates, a city in the far east.

Russia has been intensifying its attack there as it's slowly, very slowly, takes more ground.

Look at a live map of the conflict, like the one produced by the Institute for the Study

of War, and you'll see a crescent of red in Ukraine's east, sweeping from hair sun in the

south through melatopal and mariopol in the middle up and around to the suburbs of

Kharkiv in the north.

That crescent represents all the territory that Russia has taken from Ukraine since the

war began.

Earlier this month, President Zelensky estimated that Russia now occupies 20% of his country.

In back forces occupied part of the east before the war, but that territory has now tripled.
