Well, thank you all for having me. It's great to be here.

I'm going to talk a little bit about the strengths and limitations of artificial intelligence and health care.

And I should give you a little bit of background about myself first.

So I'm a cancer doctor here at UCSF. I'm in clinic every week and I take care of anything

that's blood or oncologically related at the general hospital, county hospital there. I'm also

a professor in the Department of Epidemiology and a lot of this talk will draw upon that background.

And we're going to talk about some of the challenges from an epidemiology standpoint

with artificial intelligence. And then hopefully by the end of this we talk about the ethics of AI.

And then I'm happy to take your questions. I think there'll be time for all sorts of questions.

All right in terms of financial disclosures, you know, I do a lot of social media stuff, and I do some consulting on cancer drug pathways for a couple of the insurance companies

to try to use more high-value products.

I want to talk about the ethics of AI and some of the ways in which we may even misunderstand

I want to talk about some things you may have heard in the news.

Google mammography.

Apparently Google has defeated radiologists in reading mammograms.

So that's another win for Google.

They've defeated drivers with Waymo and they're defeating radiologists.

Who knows? They'll defeat oncologists soon.

Colonoscopy, apparently artificial intelligence is useful in finding polyps that the GI doctor can't see.
