Today, in this special bonus episode, I will read the full transcript of George Washington's speech.

It's less than eight minutes long, but I think it's good to hear the president's own words.

Now, while there's no official record, historians believe that the president wrote his address

with the help of James Madison, as well as his personal secretaries.

He gave his address to Congress on January 8, 1790, just days after the beginning of Congress's

second session. It was delivered to a joint session of Congress meeting in the Senate chamber.

What follows is President Washington's first annual address to Congress.
