0:48.2	Hello. Hello, and thank you for joining the American Revolution. This week episode 309, The North Government Falls. So this week we're looking at the British reaction to hearing the news of the surrender of Yorktown.
0:58.0	The first word of the loss of the army under General Cornwallis came from a ship that heard about the news in France.
1:05.6	On November 25th, 1781, a packet ship sailing from Clay to Falmouth arrived with word that officials were celebrating in Paris over a great victory in Virginia.
1:17.0	The messenger carried the news to Lord Germain, the American Secretary,
1:21.0	although it was a Sunday he sent word to the King and met with several
1:25.5	other top officials. He and those officials went over to carry the news to Prime Minister, Lord
1:31.0	North, who exclaimed,
1:33.0	Oh God, oh God, it's all over.
1:36.4	Now that day, word of the loss was still really a rumor,
1:39.8	but that night, however, a Navy ship, the rattlesnake,
1:43.8	arrived carrying Admiral Thomas Graves' report of the surrender.
