Summary

In the new episode of Film Stories with Simon Brew, the asteroid movie in a race against time, and the Stephen King adaptation with a casting nightmare. Three similar films were in the race when Disney greenlit Armageddon - but it committed to spending over $100m on the film without a script in place. Actor after actor turned down Misery meanwhile, a film that took over half a year to nail down its two leads - and rewrite a key moment from the source novel too. Stories of both are told in this episode. Find Simon on Twitter at @simonbrew, and the podcast can be found at @filmstoriespod. Support our work at www.patreon.com/simonbrew. Hosted on Acast. The aim of the podcast though, as the title suggests, I'm here to to talk of the stories of films and I talk about development stories, production stories,

0:41.5

marketing stories, release stories, just all those bits and bobs really that go to make the films

0:46.2

that we know and sometimes love, just that the films that we know and sometimes love.

0:51.4

The films I tend to choose this podcast have more of a mainstream leaning than

0:54.6

anything else there. Films also I have some investment or interest in. I don't see the point

0:59.7

in me sitting here and punching down. I think it's a job and a half just to get a film off the

1:04.2

ground and made. And this podcast really is a celebration of that, warts and all, depending on

1:08.9

just how the film turned out. As it happens, the two films I've

1:12.6

picked for this particular episode, while I'm a big fan of both of them, I think one of those is

1:16.9

slightly more contentious than the other. So I'm going to start with perhaps the more divisive one.
