I don't really know how to start shows.

Come on now, don't start liking me now. So yeah, I'm funny compared to you. Well, you'll see later. I favor me. I know a lot of fucking idiots. I think a lot of shit is mean-spirited. Just because it goes against what they believe. But the relief of comedy is it take things that aren't funny and it allows us to laugh about them for an hour.

Evening, everybody.

Welcome to another episode of Why Are You Laughing, a History of Comedy Podcast.

0:30.6

And today, I'm pleased to introduce to you.

0:33.7

Ari Sheffirs, this is not happening.

0:35.9

We are going over the history of Arishafir's storytelling show that was on Comedy Central,

0:41.3

starting in 2015, that ended up being ripped away from him unjustly, in my opinion,

0:46.9

as we will discuss.

0:48.4

It was actually a good time, and Craig and I were just talking about this before the show,

0:51.3

that I mentioned wanting to do an episode about this is not

0:55.5

happening in some way because I thought it was a great thing for comics and I thought the story

1:00.1

is very interesting of how Ari lost the show and all that. I didn't really know how I would do it.

1:04.4

And then a week ago, Ari Shafir came back from his sojourn around the world and told Andrew Schultz every detail of the show. And I said, I'll use that as the base, I guess. So, yeah, I recommend, I thought it was a very good episode of Flagrint he was on. If you saw the interview and you aren't interested in my commentary and thoughts on it, just skip this one. Good riddance. See you later. Beat it.

But we use a lot of that interview. We also have some other stuff at the end as well that I want to get to as far as this has not happened. So that it'll be a good topic to go over today.

1:38.0

Also, I don't think we do enough of these episodes of why are you laughing where it's something,

1:43.6

I guess, it's not obscure in the world of

1:46.0

comedy but in the grand theme scheme of things compared to other subjects we talk about something

1:51.0

more obscure or niche that I that I just enjoy that I want to talk to people about so we kind of

1:56.7

did that with Nick Mullen a few weeks ago so and oh and we did Arish Sheffir a couple years ago, right? We did an Arishufir episode. Yes, we did. It was very tongue-in-cheek, as I recall. I'll put it in the comments or something. I'll pin it to the comments or whatever. The last, like the last comic on Earth or something. Yeah, America's one true comedian. I think it's something like that. Yeah. But yeah, I like Arshafier a lot. I also think he gets mislabeled as like just an edge lord or something. When he is a true artist, like if you really examine his career and the stuff that he's put out, there is, I mean, there's also stuff where, like, he takes a shit on stage at Skankfest
