Popular news sources report that employees are leaving the work force in mass and looking for new jobs. They call it the great resignation.

What is going on? Why are employees leaving? Are all employees leaving?

And what can employers do to stop the unwanted regrettable resignation of employees?

As I consider the great resignation, I am reminded of several quotes. One, you can't transform something you don't understand, this from Annette Froms.

A second quote paraphrase from Thoreau. For every thousand hacking at the branches of evil, there is one hacking at the root.

So my question is, what is the root? And can we define that from all the noise we hear about the great resignation?

And a third possibility or question from Thoreau, it's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see.

What do you see? It's not the data that we have out there, it's what do you read from the data?

And I would like you to consider more deeply, what is it that you see? What is the underbelly of the great resignation?

My research team and I at RTCoach.io have been working on background for this particular episode for several months.

It has been difficult to come to terms with. It is still a work in progress.

And yet I think there are aspects of the great resignation that we know now that are worthy indeed vital to relate to help others keep their best people.

Because executive coaches are trying to help those who would coach retain their best people.

And we need to be up on this topic so that we can help them more.
