Sheryl “Mac” McCollum is an Emmy Award winning CSI, a writer for CrimeOnLine, Forensic and Crime Scene Expert for Crime Stories with Nancy Grace, and a CSI for a metro Atlanta Police Department. She is the co-author of the textbook., Cold Case: Pathways to Justice. Sheryl is also the founder and director of the Cold Case Investigative Research Institute, a collaboration between universities and colleges that brings researchers, practitioners, students and the criminal justice community together to advance techniques in solving cold cases and assist families and law enforcement with solvability factors for unsolved homicides, missing persons, and kidnapping cases.

It was in 1972 and my sister Charlene had to read a book for school.

To entertain us and to get her work done, she decided to read it to us at bedtime.

I loved the story. So So when my second grade teacher announced

and small. Well, when I announced my plan at the supper table, I was met with just a barrage of that'll never work.

You're going to get caught cheating. I'm like cheating. I mean, y'all are throwing out some

pretty severe accusations now. I mean, I know the book, but they were like, you can't do a book

report on an advanced book. I mean,

you're seven. And then they were saying, your teacher's going to know you didn't read this book.

And however you write that book report, it's going to be real obvious. And then Charlene said,

remember, you even fell asleep during a lot of the parts, and I kept reading to Shelley.

So there's big gaps of the book you don't know.

Well, I was real disappointed because I thought I had just saved myself a whole lot of time.
