Summary

Recently we've noticed a trend among the artists we know online; there seem to be more and more complaints about social media. Some artists have left Facebook on principle, many are disillusioned with Instagram's shift to bite-sized video content, and most of us haven't even tried Tik Tok. The dissatisfaction runs the gamut - if you have used social media for years, you might be finding it less effective than before. And if you are only just starting online, you might be struggling against the algorithm, and wondering how anyone ever built up a sizeable following. But have we lost our perspective? Social media platforms still allow us to share our art with the world, completely free of charge and surely that has greatly levelled the playing field for contemporary artists? As you may be able to tell, we have more questions than answers, -and we may have done a bit more moaning than usual - but we hope our discussion offers food for thought in an ever-changing world.

This is our last episode for a month, as we'll be taking a short break. Do make sure you are subscribed so you don't miss us when we return.

Alice has just come back. I can see from looking at her from a very nice holiday because she's

0:36.3

tanned, she's relaxed looking and she's finding a little bit of a struggle to get back into the swing of social media marketing business.

0:49.0

And so that gave us our idea.

The main topic?

0:52.8

Life in general, basically.

0:55.0

It's one of those.

0:56.0

Can we just leave it how it was?

0:59.0

It was quite good fun.

1:00.0

See, it wouldn't be so much good fun if you didn't come back to this though would it?

1:04.0

Yeah yeah if that was it all the time. The hotel manager did say every morning,

1:08.8

welcome to another day in paradise.

1:26.0

It was very nice. We went to Lemnos and the irony of having avoided Greece in the summer for years and years because it's too hot and then it being 10 degrees hotter in London than it was. That's quite funny so we just had you know beautiful weather lovely breeze. We were supposedly learning how to sail. They've probably faded now, but it was really quite windy. First day morning, just three mornings learning how to do this was lovely. The second day we had like four six wins which you're not

supposed to be out in as a learner. So it was quite a challenge, quite battered, quite a lot of no problem whatsoever in learning to capsize or hull a boat and turn it back the right way. And then I woke up the next morning absolutely covered in bruises and I can't work at it.

2:05.6

I was like how did I get these because even when I fall off I didn't kind of bang myself that way and no bangs in the heads from the boom going around and stuff.

2:14.0

And then the first time I kept sized again and I had to lean on the board to get the boat to turn the right way up.

2:20.0

And I realized it was all bruised up the inside edge of my arms and not

2:25.5

glamorous but really good fun and I just realized how much I enjoy learning new things

2:31.0

even when I'm really rubbish at them and really rubbish I was because there's that kind of oh you know that in a level of hope but next time I'll be able to do it better.

2:40.0

Give me another go, give me another go, give me another go, and I'll get it right this time.

2:44.0

But we had a really lovely time, it was nice, small place.
