Hello and welcome back to practicing human, the podcast where every day we're getting a little better at life. I'm your host, Corey Miscara, and in today's episode, we're going to talk about how to tell if you're running from yourself. More to come on that in a moment. First, let's settle in together with the sound of the bells. Okay. So recently, I made a post on Instagram where I said,

do nothing for five minutes and watch how loud your mind gets.

That noise is why you're running from yourself.

So we're going to build off of that in today's episode.

I think this is a simple but powerful exercise that I encourage everyone to do.

I'm assuming a lot of listeners have some form of a meditation practice.

But even then, you know, when you go into a meditation, you're kind of going into it with an objective.

You're going to be doing something.

And that something and the orientation you bring to it creates a particular container where you're very willing to meet what arises

because that's what you're supposed to be doing in this moment.

But sometimes when you remove that container

and you take it out of the context of, oh, I'm meditating,

so I'm just going to be with whatever's arising and passing,

the stuff that arises, the thoughts, the emotions, the sensations,

they can really just run our life in a reactive, reflexive way,

and we don't realize how so many of our patterns are the result of that noise and discomfort that's lingering

beneath the surface. That boredom you don't want to feel is often why you reach for your

phone. That stress that kind of hangs out as a buzz is often why you reach for your phone. That stress, that kind of hangs out as a buzz, is often why we

reach for more food. That low-grade feeling of unworthiness is often what pushes us to work

ourselves into the ground beyond the point of feeling exhausted.
