Summary

Talia Bombola is a Psychoanalytic LMFT, Professor, Speaker, and the host of Heal Through Humor, and theco-host of The Couple’s Guide Podcast as well as Between Two Clinicians. Talia and I chat about where our own self-worth stems from and how important it is to learn about who you are in order to set yourself up for relationship success. We talk about how to notice and break unhealthy dating patterns, how Talia overcame her anxious attachment, and the importance of communicating your needs. Finally, we answer listener questions about dating someone who doesn't text you enough, getting dumped by someone who wasn't looking for something serious only to see them in a relationship a month later, and if you should be financially stable when actively dating.

been trying to figure out how to introduce you. And I feel like you're so many things. And you have

0:59.6

such an impressive, like, title. So I'm going to try and do it. First of all, you're known as

1:04.3

the confidence and assertiveness specialist, which is amazing because we need a lot of help in that

1:10.0

area here. Yes. Yes.

1:11.8

You're a psychoanalytic, licensed marriage and family therapist, a professor and a speaker,

psychotherapist and host of heal through humor. Yes. And I don't know how I do all that I do.

2:00.8

And I joke with my other podcasts. I'll joke. And I'm like, I would have never started all of them if it were now. Like, the fact that they've been going for years is the only reason why I've kept up with them. And the fact that I love my co-hosts. But it's a lot of work. I mean, you know you do this too. it's that is like a job in and of itself if you wanted to. And then I look at all that I've done. And I'm like, wow, I was really ambitious when I was deriving my self-worth from productivity. Like, okay. And then I think also noticing some like changes after, I don't know if other, I'm sure other women will listen to this too. After I got off birth control, that was a huge shift for me hormonally because I feel like I was so driven, almost like man drive. And then once that shifted, I was like, I'm lighter and more free and I don't need to work as much. And then I was like, yeah, I'm so glad I built all of this beforehand. Oh my God. That is so interesting.

2:17.6

That's something I haven't thought that much about. I've been on birth control since I was in high school. And it was like before I even like had sex for the first time, but I was, I had such bad periods. I was like, I can't, I can't live like a time of a period for half the month. I can't, I can't do that.

2:40.3

So I've been on birth control for like half of my life. And eventually one day I will go off of it. And I haven't really thought about how it might affect me other than getting my period.

2:45.8

Yeah, I was on it for 15 something years trying to do the math. so it was a very long time and nothing like

2:53.8
