If you got a Bible, go to Exodus chapter 20.

We're going to spend most of the year in the Old Testament book of Exodus, and we're

jumping right in to the middle of the book.

It's the Ten Commandments, which is kind of the heart of Exodus and God we're jumping right in to the middle of the book. It's the Ten Commandments,

which is kind of the heart of Exodus and God's law in the Old Testament. So we're finding

your place in Exodus chapter 20. Here's the backdrop. God is telling his people, here are the

rules for our relationship, for us to have a loving, healthy, joyful relationship, God is basically saying

it's going to be on my terms and I'm going to make it clear how we are going to relate to one

another. So God gives 10 commandments and the first one is there's only one God. The second one is

you only worship that God. The third commandment we'll look at now is do not take the Lord's name in vain.

Hmm. What do you think that means? How many of you? It's a little convicting, amen? Just a little bit. How many of you like me grew up and Jesus Christ was not spoken of in the way that he should have been, I'll be honest

with you guys. Growing up, I used the Lord's name, but not in a holy reverential way. And then suddenly

I realized I was breaking the Third Commandment all the time using the Lord's name in vain. And it

happens really commonly. Think about it even in your last week or month. How many of you have heard Jesus' name used in a negative, pejorative, cursing way? And isn't it weird they don't use the names of other gods? It's not like a guy on a job site hits his thumb with a hammer and screams Allah. You know, he doesn't do that. Holy Krishna. You know, it's, there's so much power in the

name of our God that people will misuse it and we want to use it rightly. So we'll jump right in.

Here's what God has to say. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the

Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.
