Summary

After a great DM on Instagram and a heavy convo with Mike Campbell on his podcast, Everyday Legends, I wanted to riff on this idea a little more deeply. Tens of millions of men have put their masculinity into a dangerously codependent relationship with certain external institutions and narratives. Many of them do this without even questioning what they lose: the means for self-validation, self-leadership, and—this is a big one—mental and spiritual freedom. Did you enjoy the podcast? And I talked about the fact that we as men, many of us have put our

masculinity into codependent relationships with something. And the reality is that many men

0:48.5

have put their masculinity into a codependent relationship with patriotism, with religion, with women, or a political

0:57.3

ideology. And this is one of the biggest challenges that we see in our culture today. The reality

1:04.1

is that we as men have outsourced our value. We have outsourced our masculine value and essence and power and validation to political

1:14.4

views, to feminine and female approval, to patriotic ideologies, and to religious frameworks.

1:21.8

Without question, many of us have been told and indoctrinated from childhood from birth that this is what real men do.

This is what a free man looks like is that he should give his life for his country or to his

patriotic values or to his religion.

And we don't question these things at all.

And so we sort of enter into our masculinity, or maybe we grow up around the

1:46.4

sort of feminine ideology that says that you are a good man if you're a good boy. If you act

in a certain way and get women's attention and validation, and that that becomes the idea

of where you as a man, where you are a man, where your masculine approval, where your masculine value

is predicated. So many of us, and this for some people is lighter than others, right? For some
