0:00.0	I want to share with you an inside story about St. John Paul II, something that not many
0:18.1	people are aware of.
0:19.2	It has to do with his world youth day in 1993.
0:22.6	Now, he had been doing some world youth days before this.
0:25.2	He did one in Europe and Chesterhova, another one in Europe in Santiago, Spain at the
0:29.4	Tomb of St. James.
0:30.7	He had done one in South America, but when he proposed coming to the United States, many
0:35.2	of the US bishops were skeptical.
0:37.2	They didn't think the youth in the United States would come.
0:40.0	They wouldn't be interested.
0:41.6	Those other places are pilgrimage sites.
0:43.7	We don't really have big pilgrimage sites here in the US and people in the United States
0:47.4	aren't used to pilgrimage.
0:48.5	Why would youth in the USA want to come to a world youth day with the Pope?
0:53.7	But he insisted he was still planning on coming and they had a meeting where they were
0:57.0	going to propose to him three different cities, three options that were farther out east.
1:02.4	They chose, I believe it was Buffalo, Minneapolis and Cleveland, as three options of where world
1:07.5	youth day could be.
1:08.5	And they had a big map out and they had those cities marked on the map and he looked at
1:12.2	each one and he said, no, no, and no.
1:16.4	And then he moved all the way to the far west to Colorado and there he put his finger
1:21.5	on Denver and said, Denver, we're going to do world youth day in Denver.
