You know, I think one of the biggest challenges for leaders is they make a bunch of commitments

to people that they can't actually keep, because they say yes all the time.

How do we ensure from our own perspective that we could keep promises to other people,

but a timeline to it?

Let's do this, and here's my piece of it.

Here's what I'm going to get it done.

You have my permission on this date to reach out to me and make sure it's done.

So put a timeframe to it.

Seek clarity.

You may walk in the room and say, yeah, I kept my promise.

And the person says, whoa, whoa, whoa, that isn't what we agreed.

So before you're done when you're making a promise, say just to be clear, I'm committing

to this and you're committing to that.

In my point as a leader, I would say, if you do this, I will do that.

So make sure there's clarity on it.

A lot of times people will walk up and hand you a bunch of problems and they're expecting

you to make promises to go fix those problems.

We have to be careful what promises we're accepting and put kind of boundaries around

it.

Relationships end in business and personal because trust is broken and promises aren't kept.

If we really truly believe that, then what we should put on our business card next to

our name is I'm a promise keeper.
