0:16.2	it is officially one day too early to hop into Christmas but we just can't help
0:21.0	ourselves. We're going to be going through some of our favorite Christmas passages on
0:25.1	10 minute Bible tucks up through Christmas Day itself and we're starting
0:30.0	exactly how the Gospels start with genealogies.
0:33.2	Okay, don't just turn it off.
0:35.6	Normal people avoid talking about genealogies.
0:38.9	Normal people avoid the symbolic relevance of numbers in genealogies. Normal people focus their Christmas devotionals on cute stuff like angels and shepherds and the magi. But we aren't normal people here and neither are you. So let's hop in because I actually think that genealogies are one of the most fascinating parts of the Christmas story.
0:59.4	When Matthew wanted to introduce his audience to the Christmas story to who Jesus was to this long-awaited Jewish king, he didn't begin with Mary and the angel.
1:10.0	He began with a long list of names.
1:12.8	But like everything in Matthew's gospel,
1:15.4	every detail of this list, this genealogy,
1:18.4	is important.
1:19.6	It's not actually a comprehensive roster
1:22.1	of all of Jesus' forebears.
1:23.6	There's lots of people who get left out of this list,
1:25.9	but instead it's a highlight reel,
1:27.8	telling a profound story.
1:29.8	And to understand that, we need to do some math. Now I know you're thinking this is
