It's possible for churches to have people gathered, to have access to God's word, to display the

outward forms of worship, and to participate in a lot of religious activity, and yet still

miss the heart of genuine worship. And this message from David Platt from Mark 11 verses 12-26

were reminded that true worship includes fear and reverence before God, confession of sin,

and faithful prayer. Christ's cleansing of the temple is a humble reminder of the kind of

worship God deserves. Here is David Platt with a message entitled, Are we truly worshiping?

Our next text in this journey through Mark, and I don't think there is a text that more clearly

and powerfully affirms what God has been doing in our church over the last couple of months,

and challenges us to go deeper to pursue him more than we ever have. So we're actually going to

split this text up into two parts, today being part one. So let me read the whole text, starting

March 11 verse 12, the story of Jesus overturning tables in the temple, including what happened

right before that, and after that. And bear with me my voice is I think between allergies this week

and coaching kids sports yesterday. It was gone by the end of that game. But like not me yelling at

kids like encouraging kids. Just want to be clear. Just want to be super clear, although he should have won

and ended up in a tie. Anyway, sorry, all right. March after 11 verse 12, this is God's word.

On the following day, when they came from Bethany, he, he being Jesus was hungry,

and seeing in the distance a fig tree and leaf, he went to see if he could find anything on it.

When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves for it was not the season for figs.

And he said to it, may no one ever eat fruit from you again, and his disciples heard it.

And they came to Jerusalem and he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold and

those who bought in the temple. And he overturned the tables of the money changers and the seeds of

those who sold pigeons. And you would not allow anyone to carry anything through the temple.
