Summary

Are the Tories and Labour not being honest about the spending pledges they've made to the public during the campaign? Think tank The Institute for Fiscal Studies says both parties have failed to set out "properly credible" tax and spending plans in their election manifestos. The IFS says Labour's claim that its plans to raise an additional £83 billion in taxes would not affect 95% of the population was "not true" - and if the Conservatives were elected, it was "highly likely" they would spend more than their manifesto implied, meaning higher taxes or more borrowing. Daniel and Shehab call Robert for his take on it. All this week we’ve been speaking to ITV’s political correspondents based around the country to find out the key races in their area. Today we speak to Alison Mackenzie, who covers the Midlands, ITV Wales Political Editor Adrian Masters and Joe Pike, who covers Yorkshire. Along the way, Daniel shows off his detailed knowledge of the motorway system - whether it's impressive or not, we'll let you decide. We’ll bring you a new episode of Calling Peston every weekday around 5pm throughout the election campaign. Don’t forget to subscribe - and if you like what you hear, do rate us and leave a review.
