Phil, we get some news to get to before we get to the meat of the podcast in which we will

discuss Drake May, first things first. Kyle Dugger has had the franchise, excuse me, transition

tag applied to him just hours before the deadline to apply said tag. Transition tag will

put him on the hook for $13.8 million or mean that he will get

$13.8 million in a one-year salary from the Patriots. The franchise tag was $17.1 million. A difference

between franchise and transition is you get no compensation if another team swoops in makes dougar an offer that the

patriots choose not to match and then dougar goes to said new team the patriots don't match it they get

no compensation if you had franchised him you would have gotten compensation in the form of

high draft picks it was reported on monday two, Phil, by Tony Pauline, a veteran writer, that the Patriots

had an offer of $13 million on the table for Dougger.

So what's your reaction to the transition tag and the strategy behind that as opposed to

franchising?

Yeah, it's an interesting strategy.

To me, it makes sense when you're just looking at the dollar values, right?

The transition tag being about $13 million,

and the franchise tag being $17, $17 million for a safety,

unbelievable amount of money.

And I know it's just one year and it's fully guaranteed,

but it is just one year.
