Summary

Felger & Mazz open Wednesday's program with a look at recent coverage of injured Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Felger 'smells a rat' when it comes to the over-the-top coverage of Brady's work ethic while Garoppolo rides a stationary bike. Felger & Mazz both believe the Patriots are "pushing" Garoppolo to get back on the practice field and play through the injury.

All right, maz, I smell a rat. I smell a rat. He sure is not those feet. It's possible. I'm not sure exactly what the source of it is. But when I say I smell a rat, I'm discussing the coverage yesterday coming out of Patriots mini-camp. That's how we're going to start today, Patriots. And this Garoppolo injury, a little media conspiracy, and how it was written and how it was covered. I'm beginning to smell a rat. So this is how we're going to begin today, folks. And I'm talking about the reports in the Globe and the Herald from Jim McBride and Jeff Howe, who are the lead beat writers for each paper. And I would say, and I say this with all the love and respect in my heart, team-friendly reporters, you know, sort of, they'll, they're generally from the team point of view.

And I feel good stuff from the team. And I don't say that with any malice in my heart. I'm just, this is feeding my feeling today, my conspiracy when I say that I smell a rat.

And this is all off of Garoppola missing this practice yesterday with this leg injury. Okay? It's a calf, right. Which we gave some, a little bit of time too, but, you know, not a lot. We did a lot of NBA yesterday. But we didn't spend a ton of time on the Garoppolo thing. But when I read the coverage of it, now my antenna is up. Now my antenna is up, and I smell a little bit of a rat. Here's how Jim McBride wrote the scene yesterday. And again, if you have the papers, and we'll show you some video here on CSN, if you're watching on the simulcast, you know, here's the picture in the globe. Just Carapolo by himself on the bike. Like there's no other bikes around him.

1:28.5

There's no one else on the bike. Yeah, and there's another one I saw from a different angle that literally shows everyone else playing football behind him. So look, here's the shot we got on CSN. Ernie's in front of him. He's got a couple of the personnel on either side of him, but there's no other bikes. Like usually there's a row of bikes or a couple of bikes.

1:44.7

And I don't know if that's how that's cropped or whatever,

1:46.4

but it's just sort of Jimmy by himself on the bike. And everyone else you said it is playing football. Right. Listen to how Jim McBride wrote the account. Dateline Foxborough. Tom Brady stood by himself near the 20-yard line of the far practice field behind Gillette Stadium and watched as Jacoby Brissette ran the final 11-on-11 drill Tuesday afternoon.

The majority of Brady's work was done and as he soaked in his sweat, he also soaked in his surroundings.

2:15.4

As coaches barked and players hollered,

2:19.4

Brady did something he hasn't had to do for the majority of his career.

2:22.9

He looked over his shoulder, literally.

2:26.8

Brady's eyes were fixed on the lower field,

2:29.9

where players normally work on conditioning or rehab.

2:33.6

That's where Jimmy Garoppolo was throwing short passes to Malcolm Mitchell.

2:39.8

Garoppolo didn't participate much during the OTA session,

2:42.2

the final one that the media was allowed to attend, key phrase.

2:46.5

As he nursed an apparent leg injury,

2:48.8

the ailment first came to light during the final day of minicamp last week when Garoppel was seen doing planks while teammates performed the ritual running of the hills at the conclusion of the day.

2:58.1

So just stop there.

2:59.3

Like that whole image, McBride, McBride is no idea what Brady was looking at.

3:05.0

And I'm not ripping McBride.

3:06.4

I'm just saying like, I was using a little editorial license.

3:09.6

Sort of, yes, editorial license, a little dramatic.
