Leverage. Nothing personal word of the day. It's Friday. I don't know what day it is when

you're listening to this, but today is actually Friday. Leverage is the word of the day.

Leverage is a word that covers all sorts of sin. Leverage is something that you must have

in any negotiation. I think we've spent time, at least I've spent time thinking about

leverage and how to get leverage, no matter what position you have, the thing you're taught

in law school is that no matter what side of an issue you're on, you learn this in debate

too, high school debate, no matter what side you're on of an issue, if you cannot find

the leverage point, it is going to be close to impossible to prevail. Leverage comes in

all shapes and sizes. It can come from the written word, the spoken word it can come

from body language. People talk about tells when they're playing poker. You look for

people and what they do when they have a good hand or a bad hand, when they're bluffing,

when they're not bluffing, that's all to gain leverage. Leverage is what you do when

you find a hole and you expose it and you make it bigger and you start with your toe

and get your foot, your arm and then your entire body through it. Why am I talking about

leverage is the word of the day because there's an negotiation going on where both sides

are looking for leverage. Both sides have mistakenly thought that they've had leverage at one

point or another and the beat goes on. Who really does have leverage in this negotiation

between Major League Baseball and the Players Association? I'm not even getting to the question

of who cares about the negotiation, the anger that we all feel about the negotiation,

how badly we want baseball to start and I'm not even talking about the beer challenge.
