Summary

A question that often gets floated around the entrepreneurship, business and parental circles is whether apprenticeships, that is practical experience alongside learning, is better than going to university. In this episode, Rob explores this opinion, what people mean when they say ‘better’ and what things need to be considered before someone decides one way or the other. KEY TAKEAWAYS When apprentice Joshua Mims was interviewed for national apprenticeship week, he said he valued his apprentice because he got hands on real experience. He got to see up close what he would be doing for work in the next few years at least and it also opened up many doors for him.  At age 17-18 it can be really difficult to decide what to do for the rest of your life. One of the upsides of an apprenticeship is it gives you a skill, lets you earn whilst you learn as well as giving you a true experience of what you will be doing – without any debt.  Rob can give a long list of millionaires and billionaires who either didn’t get a university education or don’t attribute this education to their success. Of course, if you know you want to be a doctor or a lawyer of course go to university but if you know you want to be an entrepreneur, maybe reconsider and look at what other options are available to you.   BEST MOMENTS “Earn while you learn and learn while you earn and then try things out!” “You can try two or three vocations before you know which is the right one for you” “The private sector system, I just don’t think school or college is set up and built for that” “Be very careful how you project onto your kids, surely what you want to give your kids is resourcefulness” [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors] VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/ bit.ly/Robsupporter   https://robmoore.com/podbooks  rob.team  ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator.
