I lived in rural Oklahoma now for about 13 years and I've loved every minute of it.

0:11.0

It's a beautiful country. From 2012 to 2015, I lived in an area with long creeks and high cliffs,

0:20.0

where I assume there must have been a lot of caves.

The first day that my father and I moved into our house, we were greeted by Ferdinand.

0:29.2

He was a gorgeous big black hound dog who had been living there by himself for a year.

0:35.6

Since he seemed so healthy and well-fed, we asked the neighbors if they'd been

0:40.0

feeding him and taking care of him, but they said they hadn't. So we figured Ferdinand must be a good

1:29.2

they usually eat part of their prey and take it somewhere off and up a tree. They go for the back

1:35.8

of the neck and they leave claw marks. Plus there would have been a gut trail. But there were

1:41.7

no claw marks and no gut trail. There were no bite marks, no

1:45.7

paw prints, and no drag marks. This deer looked like it had been ripped in half, disemboweled,

1:51.9

and thrown into our yard 40 or 50 feet from the road. It was 5 a.m. when my son discovered the

2:00.2

fawn, and he came straight back inside and told me about it, and we went out to inspect it.

2:07.1

My dogs came with me, but they wanted nothing to do with the carcass. They wouldn't touch it or even go near it.
