My dad loves to hunt raccoons. My maternal grandfather, my brother and a cousin and I have often joined

him over the years. One night in 1983, we were all with him and close family friends

on a piece of land just outside Paradise, Texas. Our general practice was to wait for the

dogs to open on a trail and then sit down and wait for them to tree.

Once they did that, we'd find the dogs and praise them for a job well done and then lead them away from the tree so that the raccoon could get away.

Then we'd move to another spot and turn them loose on another trail to tree another raccoon.

We enjoyed the time together and working the dogs. I especially loved hunting at night.

All the other hunting I did was during the day, but nature is more exciting in the dark.
