As we all know, the Second Vatican Council teaches with remarkable clarity that God's offer of salvation in Christ

is truly universal, that it extends to every human being. Gaudium at Spess 22 offers the best known and most fully elaborated articulation of this teaching.

Sharing in the pascal mystery and configured to Christ,

the faithful Christian, according to Gaudium its best 22,

Christianus Homo, the faithful Christian bears the image of the Son of God

and enjoys the first fruits of the Spirit

by which he becomes capable of fulfilling the new law of love.

The Holy Spirit is the pledge of an eternal inheritance and inwardly renews the Christian,

even to the point of the redemption of the body,

the resurrection to which the Christian presses on in faith and hope amidst the tribulations of the present world.

Godemits best 22 says this,

and then it goes on to say that everything the Christian

receives and enjoys by sharing in the pascal mystery through faith in Christ and the sacramental

mediation of Christ's own life in the church, all that may also be received and enjoyed

by those who do not believe in Christ, and indeed by every human being.

This, quoting Gaudiomitzpess again, this holds true, everything that's been said about

Christianus Homo, the faithful Christian earlier in paragraph 22, this holds true not only for Christians,

but also for all human beings of goodwill, in whose

heart grace works in an unseen way.

For since Christ died for all men, and since the ultimate vocation of man is in fact

one and divine, we ought to believe that the Holy Spirit in a manner known to God offers to all the possibility

of sharing in this pascal mystery."
