Summary

In Hour 2, Felger and Mazz continued to discuss the B’s and future of interim head coach Bruce Cassidy.  Mike and Tony also got into the Boston Celtics and last night’s series-tying win against the Chicago Bulls.  To close out the hour, the guys discussed Manny Machado’s slide into second base in Friday night’s Boston Red Sox game against the Baltimore Orioles.

I do not think, I do not think. So what are you getting this guy, blah? Even listen to yourself when you talk. Hey, we're live. Woo-hoo! Turn off your radio before it's too late. Hate it, hated, hated, hated, hated. I told you this was a bad idea. Felger and NAS, 985, the Sports Hub. That'll be determined going forward by management, whether I continue to be the head coach,

0:23.1

and what players will be here, but be determined by management.

0:25.5

So it's a tough question to answer.

0:27.1

Bruce, you mentioned assumptions and whatnot.

0:29.9

Do you want to be the coachless team moving forward?

0:31.9

Absolutely. 100%.

0:33.4

Okay, should he be mess?

0:35.0

Yes, yeah, he should be.

0:36.2

They showed enough here down the stretch where he should get the job.

0:38.9

And to me, one of the big things with him is the defense, right? That's his area of expertise. Kevin Miller made progress. He now have McAvoy, who's going to be a central part of it. Brandon Carlo is going to be a central part of it. You want a guy who can develop these defensemen. To me, the whole future of the franchise is built on that.

0:55.4

Like, you've got to develop these guys.

0:56.8

These guys have to be able to play and then you can you know build on top of him you want to go from there and so i think he's the right guy at the right time well that's the number one reason i think maz i didn't think you just hit it and again his work in providence he worked with a lot of these guys coming up. So he's been a development

1:11.2

guy for you the last several years. And so that's sort of a seamless thing. And you're right, if Sweeney's, you know, Sweeney's NHL moves have sucked. But his draft picks look better. And that's sort of the, that's it. That's how you're going to build this thing. That's how you build anything, really.

1:25.8

So now, now if you ask me, how long would I give them?

1:29.8

Well, now we can get into a little bit of... That's it. That's how you're going to build this thing. That's how you build anything, really. So now if you ask me, how long would I give them?

2:01.4

Well, now we can get into a little bit of a debate. Because honestly, I didn't love the absence of discipline here in this series. All these stupid mistakes. And I know that the players are the ones flipping the puck into the crowd. but ultimately I feel like that's a detail thing that the coach has got to be drilling people over the head with over and over and over again. Let's not go glass, guys. Let's go boards. Exactly. They were clearly trying to get it off the glass and they couldn't do it. So stop going off the glass. I mean, so it's no, no, we chalk it up to youth, if you want, in the case of like,

2:53.6

okay, Passernack took a stupid penalty to his first playoff series. Okay, maybe, I guess, and that one wasn't flipping the puck into the crowd. There was the interference, obviously, the holding, whatever the hell it was. So there's some of that, but I also feel like, let's not get too loose now either. Like, you know, 21 penalties in five games, penalties in overtime, whoever committed them or whenever they were committed, it felt a little too loose. Okay, so to me that's on Cassidy. But it's not enough of a reason to say, don't bring him back. Go ahead, Marri. Well, they totally should. I thought they responded very well to him. And for that alone, he should get the gig. I am curious to see if they end up getting a little horny for the two guys that just got fired that have a better pedigree in, who is it? Sutter? And Sutter and Bilesma. So. Okay, so no one Bilesma. Sutter, maybe. Sutter's a nut, though. He's a nut, and he's another, well, he lasted quite a while in L.A., but he grinds it hard, man.

3:11.4

And he's sort of a dinosaur. He plays a style that is, or prefers a style that is, it's really not that quick ups, quick skill, speed. He's really an old school sort of grinder. And I don't know, you know, that would fit the Bruins historically. I don't know if it fits them now. My thing on Cassidy is fine.

3:07.6

Bring them now. My thing on Cassidy is fine, bring him back, but if you have someone better, I wouldn't shed a tear for him. He deserves a job somewhere probably. He deserves a second crack and did enough here that he deserves to be an NHL coach. So personally, I hope he gets a crack somewhere. It doesn't have to be here, though. And if you have someone better who you know is better, fine. I was never married to Cassidy. I was just married to getting rid of Claude. And they did it, and it worked. And so I'm satisfied. Now you want your coach for the future, and you have someone better in mind than Cassidy? Go ahead. Go make your coaching move for the future. I mean, not to go too far down this road, because ultimately you either give them the job or you don't. And we can get into how much you want to invest in everything else. I wouldn't go more than a couple of years. But in the meantime, Claude, what happened? You know, I was busy on Saturday, so I wasn't able to really keep track of what happened on Saturday. Jimmy, could you just refresh my memory? What happened on? Fans on their feet here at Madison Square Garden. Petrie with one final shot and misses the net. Hedric Lundquist throws his arms up in the air. The Rangers win the game 3-1, the Series 4-2. They move on to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

4:15.2

And Montreal goes home.

You want to feel better, Bruins fans?
