0:00.0	Hi friends. I'm Annie F. Downs. Let's read the Gospels. The Gospels are the first four books of the New Testament in the Bible, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. These are the stories of Jesus Christ's life on earth, the friendships, the parables, the sacrifices, the meals, the miracles. So here is how it works. I'll read three chapters to you. You can listen or read along in your own Bible or online, and then I'll pray, and that's it. So today is day 24. I'll be reading
0:26.5	Matthew chapters 9 through 11 from the New Living Translation, and we are on page 157 of the
0:32.7	Let's Read the Gospels Guided Journal.
0:39.5	Matthew 9.
0:41.9	Jesus climbed into a boat and went back across the lake to his own town.
0:46.5	Some people brought to him a paralyzed man on a mat.
0:49.6	Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, be encouraged, my child, your sins
0:53.3	are forgiven.
0:54.7	But some of the teachers of religious law said to themselves, that's blasphemy. Does he think he's God?
1:00.4	Jesus knew what they were thinking. So he asked them, why do you have such evil thoughts in your hearts?
1:06.3	Is it easier to say your sins are forgiven or stand up and walk. So I will prove to you that the son of
1:11.7	man has the authority on earth to forgive sins. Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said,
1:17.7	Stand up, pick up your mat and go home. And the man jumped up and went home. Fear swept through the
1:24.5	crowd as they saw this happen. and they praised God for giving humans such
1:28.9	authority. As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at his tax collector's
1:35.3	booth. Follow me and be my disciple, Jesus said to him. So Matthew got up and followed him.
1:41.5	Later, Matthew invited Jesus and his disciples to his home as dinner guests,
1:46.2	along with many tax collectors and other disreputable centers. But when the Pharisees saw this,
1:51.4	they asked his disciples, why does your teacher eat with such scum? When Jesus heard this, he said,
1:58.1	Healthy people don't need a doctor. sick people do. Then he added,
2:02.0	Now go and learn the meaning of this scripture. I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.
2:07.5	For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.
