And I'm Anna Palmer.

Jake and John Presnahan have a piece up this morning on Florida Representative Matt Gates,

renting office space from a longtime friend and donor at taxpayer expense.

Both men said Gates is paying below market rent for the space, though Gates later said

it was at or below market rate. House rules explicitly state such arrangements are not allowed.

Shortly after he spoke to his office, Gates tweeted yesterday afternoon, Politico is writing a smearpiece

on me as shills for the

Senator Burr camp. Well, we included my email to Bresenhan from last year about Gates and Meryl,

far before Gates's criticism of Richard Burr. Burr had nothing to do with this story.

We got two thoughts this morning about opening the government, and they're kind of contradictory.

Doesn't it seem somewhat plausible that the government opening will break down into a blue-state,

red-state battle with red states siding with President Donald Trump and blue states, well,

resisting?

Or governors across the board will be cautious and push back against the administration's deadlines.

Lives are in the balance and governors are going to want to get this right.

Small steps rather than giant leaps will be the game plan.

It's easy to call to open things up from the House or Senate, tougher from the governor's mansion or mayor's office where there are consequences.

Donald Trump kicked responsibility for coronavirus-related shutdowns to state governors.

This is as he unveiled general guidelines for a phase reopening of the economy.
