Summary

The approval ratings in which we view our photos, actions, thoughts and lives is a broken system.

A week ago a friend sent me a hilariously negative review he found on Amazon regarding my book On Fire.

We spend significant time rating others and ingesting their judgment of us.

The goal of our lives is not status or ease, but leading, serving, elevating and inspiring in such a manner that other lives are better because we were part of it.

Well, hello, my friends, and welcome to the Live Inspired podcast Monday morning moments with John O'Leary.

0:11.8

I record these so that you and I can begin our days and our weeks in awe.

0:16.2

We'll come back to that in a moment and on fire with a burst of inspiration. This week, by the way, marks the

0:23.9

one year anniversary of the release of drum roll, come on, of a little book you may have read,

0:31.3

you may have heard of you, may have enjoyed called In A. So for all of you who helped us launch

0:36.8

that book and have enjoyed that process,

0:39.1

I want to thank you all for being part of it and part of our community. It reminds me, though,

0:44.5

that about a week ago a friend sent me a hilariously negative review he found on Amazon

0:51.7

regarding the book on fire. Now, although there are more than

0:55.8

1,000 five-star reviews of my books online, my dear friend was kind enough to bring to my attention

1:03.1

in alternative perspective. That's right, he found the negative one. Perhaps my favorite line

1:09.3

from this one-star review rant included the mic drop sentence

in a just world. O'Leary's readers would be compensated for their time. Yeah, I know. Tell me something

that my kids have not already told me nightly for years. Well, later on that

1:29.5

evening, I was listening to some politician and pundits on the radio discussed the approval

1:35.4

rating for Biden in his first 100 days. They were sharing what his rating was. How did it compare

1:41.1

to Trump's? How did it compare to the previous eight presidents? And what did that mean for the remainder of his presidency? And it's not just the presidents who are in the spotlight these days. We spend significant time rating others and opening ourselves to being judged by them through social media. With a single click, we know immediately if the cake

2:02.4

pick we posted was cooked just right, if the vacation we took was nice enough, if the stance

2:09.3

we took on any societal issue was right enough or woke enough in a marketplace where

2:14.7

everyone has an opinion on everything and the technology also to broadcast

2:20.2

that opinion much is made of ranking people ranking products ranking food and ranking politicians

2:27.7

but my friends what if it's not about the ranking what if the the measurement we use is broken? What if the lens we
