A plan that's been underway at Apple for the last decade has come screeching to a halt.

Apple has reportedly abandoned its plans for an electric car called Project Titan.

The nearly 2,000 employees who'd been working on the project were surprised by last week's announcement, according to Bloomberg.

There will reportedly be layoffs, but it's unclear how many. What was bad news for employees

was good news for investors, it seems. Shares climbed after Bloomberg first reported Titans' cancellation,

and Apple's stock was up 1% by the end of the day the news broke. So the big question is,

why? Turns out several factors conspired to make Apple pull the plug.
