Apple has come under fire after announcing expanded protections for children in iOS 15.

These new updates apply to search and Siri, messages, both SMS and iMessage, and the

iCloud photo library.

This update to photos on iCloud allows Apple to scan a user's iPhone photos for child sexual

abuse materials, also known as CSAM, and it's garnering strong criticism from privacy advocates.

I mean, at face value, this seems like a good thing.

Who wouldn't want stronger protections for kids when it comes to technology?

And even Apple's competitors like Google and Facebook have been using this technology

for a while.

The big concern that experts have, though, is that Apple, a company known for its commitment

to user privacy, has now built a back door into its hardware, when they could be used

by the government or malicious actors, to gain access to user data.
