As recently as 2019, the concept of the Metaverse was still virtually

unknown to many. But that year, Facebook released its virtual reality headset, the Oculus Quest.

For the low price of $399, users could use the headset to run games and software under an Android-based

operating system. The device was celebrated for its price and

convenience, but was criticized for, among other things, downgraded image quality. A year later,

in 2020, Facebook released its Oculus Quest 2 with a faster processor, higher quality display,

and improved design. The Quest marked Facebook's first official foray

into a vast digital landscape of interconnected virtual worlds called the Metaverse. And it certainly
