Summary

The Tories are failing on their housing promises. Quelle surprise. Up steps Michael Gove to save the day – or is he? Are his newly announced plans actually anything new? And will they make a difference? Then, as the world heats up and our political parties abandon key pledges on climate, are you losing hope? We discuss climate despair. And in the extra bit for subscribers, the panel unpacks Oppenheimer and how its dual release with Barbie could impact Hollywood. “They’re simply announcing things they’ve already tried with no clear answer.” – Hannah Fearn. “They’ve suddenly realised that people really do care about housing…they know they need to say something.” – Hannah Fearn. “The polling shows there is a real consensus amongst voters that climate is important.” – Hannah Fearn. “If more general elections were held in the middle of July I think people would vote accordingly.” – Seth Thévoz. www.patreon.com/ohgodwhatnow Presented by Dorian Lynskey with Hannah Fearn and Seth Thévoz. Hello, welcome to Oh God What Now, I'm Dorian Linsky. On today's show, Michael Gove has

0:09.7

a plan to triple the size of Cambridge among other things. What is his latest plan for

0:13.4

housing and is it workable? Plus with the two main parties of banning climate policies,

0:18.0

we discuss climate despair and what to do about it. And in the extra bit for Patreon

0:22.2

backers, we're talking about the second half of the Barbenheimer double bill, Christopher

0:26.0

Nolan's epic biopic of J. Robert Obenheimer, the man who built the bomb. Let's meet the

0:30.7

panel. Hannah Fern is a columnist for the eye paper. Hello, Hannah. Hello. The Farage

0:35.2

bank rail rolls on claiming the scamp of net West boss, Alison Rose. Like most people,

0:40.6

we on the podcast took net West's word for it when the story first broke. Farage annoyingly

0:44.7

has been vindicated and is remaking himself as a crusader for the banking rights of the little

0:49.0

guy. Should this story be as big as it is? It's the BBC and any of my else who printed

0:55.9

net West's original claim over compensating a tad. I think there's a bit of that. I mean,

1:00.5

it's a real mistake from net West because Farage being who he is. I did the same, by the

1:05.6

way, as everyone on the podcast, I immediately, of course, felt that the BBC reporting must

1:10.3

be accurate, rang true for everybody, I think, on the centre left. The thing is, Farage

1:17.6

is very good, as we know, at police sizing any sort of minor issues that seems to champion

1:24.6

the small person, the underdog, and painting himself as an underdog, which, of course,

1:28.6

he is not. But I do think there are some parts of this story that are quite troubling.

1:32.9

It is really worried, and given that banking is such a personal and protected issue, that

1:41.9

we had a leak to the BBC, not to a fringe publication, that was incorrect, about a significant

1:49.2

figure in UK public life. I'm concerned about that, and I think it's right that she's

1:54.0

gone, actually. Really? Yeah, I think that's quite surprising.
