Houston, we have a podcast. Welcome to the official podcast of the NASA Johnson Space Center,

0:04.5

episode 71, Apollo and the Moon. I'm Gary Jordan and I'll be your host today. So if you're familiar

0:10.0

with us, this is where we bring in scientists, engineers, astronauts, all the coolest people to tell

0:13.8

you all the cool stuff about NASA. We explore a lot about human spaceflight and dive deep

0:18.3

into so many topics. So we're celebrating 50 years since the era of the Apollo missions to the moon and there was a lot of political drive behind this initiative

0:27.1

But there was also some fascinating science and it may not look like much but the moon is full of stories stories about how the earth formed

0:34.4

stories of fire and energy and there's a very interesting perspective on exploring the moon.

We haven't been since 1972 but there's still so much that we're learning about this celestial body and there's plenty of reason to go back.

0:45.4

To give different perspectives on the moon we have Jennifer Ross Nizel and John Gruner.

things you need, like fuel, water, or building materials.

1:14.4

So today we're going to go back in time

1:16.1

and explore the Apollo program and what it took for humans

1:19.0

to land on the moon.

1:20.3

And then we'll discover what we learned about our nearest celestial body to our planet from John

1:26.7

Gruner.

1:27.7

History can be a great way to learn how to do things better in the future, so we'll use some of
