200,000 miles from home, the crew of Apollo 13 are falling from an enormous distance back towards Earth, travelling faster and faster thousands and then tens of thousands of miles per hour as they get closer.

But to enter the atmosphere safely, they'll need precision as well as speed.

Ever since the long PC Plus 2 burn they did after swinging around the moon,

retro flight controller Chuck Dietrich has been closely tracking the spacecraft's trajectory.

And he's noticed they're off course.

After PC Plus 2, we were going to actually miss the earth,

and we had a resulting perigy of 87 miles.

And the perigee?

Paragy is how far above the earth you are.

And we needed to be down a parogy around 20 miles

to even be out of the atmosphere.
