0:48.2	What made you want to write about this topic, especially during this politically heated and charged season in the United States.
0:56.6	I know you're a history guy, and I'm sure you have opinions on some of those things, but you chose to write about something that's, I don't think at least is as it's not very
1:05.4	controversial it's not the hot topic right now maybe it will be tomorrow
1:09.5	but what what made you think okay this is what I want to write about?
1:16.4	Well I think we need a break from the from all of this going on I know a lot of people are tired of and I'm pretty
1:20.7	tired of hearing about it but well of course I'm a historian and of course one of my fields of study is that the Vietnam Cold War era and I've always been a fan of the space program going back to being a little kid and all on the space program and
1:38.6	Apollo and all those great things that we did in the 1960s and I always wanted to do a book on the space program but I never really could figure out anything to do.
1:46.9	Until one night a couple of years ago I was driving in my car and I was thinking about it and I said what could I do and it just hit me to do Apollo 1, which was slated to be the first
1:59.0	mission, the first flight of the Apollo program, the landing program and it was set to go in
2:06.4	February of 1967 and of course there was a tragic fire inside the spacecraft on January the 27th,
2:14.4	1967. They were not about to go into launch into space, but they were doing
2:20.0	a launch sequence, a test.
2:23.4	It was called a plugs out test.
