Summary

As I continue to explore the intersection of creativity and life’s daily demands, I can't help but reflect on a lesson that keeps coming back to me: creativity isn't a luxury; it's essential. In my recent conversation with Sarah Welch, we dove into how creativity helps us reconnect with who we truly are outside of the roles we cater to for others—whether it be as a parent, partner, or professional. For me, it’s about learning to lean into small chunks of time, asking for support where necessary, and, most importantly, remembering that every act of creation—regardless of its form—is a step back to my core self. Let’s talk about this journey. What creative practice surprises you, and how can you start integrating it into your life today?  Preorder Sticky Habits book today! Hi, this is Monica Packer and you're listening to About Progress, where we are about

0:09.5

progress made practical. I want to start with a question that I have asked myself more times

0:16.4

than I can count. Who am I outside of what I do for everyone else? Somewhere along the way between the

0:26.0

meals, the schedules, invisible labor, of just keeping a household running, of just keeping moving

0:32.1

every single day, we can lose touch with that part of ourselves that creates, that is a creator, someone who

0:41.0

invests in creating just because we want to. And this is a really passionate topic for me,

0:49.4

creativity in general, because I don't think I am typically creative in terms of the artistic way. And I've found

0:57.2

so many women feel that way too. But the truth is that we are all creative. We are all creators.

1:04.3

And the more we own that and lean into it ourselves, the more we can give back to ourselves.

1:10.4

And that creativity can take form in a hobby or a

1:14.5

passion. And regardless of what that looks like, we have to actually figure out the how.

Earlier this month, I aired an episode on hobby specifically, and I thought this conversation with

1:24.9

Sarah Welch would be a great companion with it. I am speaking with

1:28.8

Sarah about why creativity isn't optional for us as humans. It's actually essential. We talk about

1:35.0

why so many women feel disconnected from hobbies or passions and creativity and what's really

1:40.5

getting in the way, and it's not just the time like we think it is. We also talk about

1:45.8

how to start reclaiming that part of yourself in ways that are realistic for your life right now,

1:51.4

especially when it comes to creativity. If you've ever thought, I don't even know what I like

1:56.4

anymore, or what would I even create if I could, or where could I get the time? This episode is for you.
