Summary

I knew Cori Connors growing up as the “Mom” of the neighborhood–the one always ready to laugh with instead of scold you, eager to cheer you on, and willing to sit with you when you’re down.   She is an angel to many, and she also has an angel voice backed by her record-selling songwriting abilities.   Cori talks about how creativity cannot flourish while in the restraints of perfectionism; that in order to really get to the meat of who we are and the gifts we have, we need to get comfortable with being messy.   Cori shares how we can better discover our talents and offer our own weirdness to the world with a bold confidence, one centered in love, curiosity, and imperfection. That’s what Cori does, and she can tell you the truth–life is better messy.   About a few other things...   In my efforts to embrace my inner hippie, I took a good hard look at the skin and makeup products I was using every day. It's important to me that they are clean, and in that search I found and love using Beauty Counter. They are high quality, effective, and free of lots of nasty ingredients that other products contain. This post shares allll my favorites or you can look around yourself here.   Sign up for the Go Getter Newsletter to get Progress Pointers in your inbox every Thursday.   SHOW NOTES Cori’s website, blog, Instagram, and Facebook Cori’s Songs Played on the podcast: “Pontiac Rocket,” “Memoria,” “Broken” Get the Organization Overhaul audio course Join the monthly membership group Get your first month+ FREE with Libsyn using code MONICA Lend your voice and experience + be featured on the show HERE Join Monica on Facebook and Instagram Songs Credit: DRIVE by Dj Nicolai Heidlas @nicolai-heidlas Music provided by FREE MUSIC FOR VLOGS AND VIDEOS bit.ly/freemusicforvlogs Learn more about your ad choices. This is about progress. You are listening to episode 275. How to find magic in your mess with

0:08.0

Corey Connors. At the beginning of the month I told you something very exciting.

0:13.0

We are now going to have regular full interviews

0:16.6

with quote-unquote regular listeners from our community.

0:21.2

And when I say regular, I am not downplaying who they are. What I'm trying

0:25.2

to emphasize is that these are the people that are your neighbors, that are your friends,

0:29.4

that are in your community, but maybe they don't necessarily have a business to promote or something to sell, but they have something to share with the community.

0:37.4

From the beginning of about progress, I have tried to create space for our regular listeners to share their own progress stories.

0:47.0

Now, Corey Connors was one of those guests for me.

0:51.0

She is a incredible woman. She is a songwriter, a writer, a singer, but you don't

0:57.8

know her from a national stage. Correa is well known and beloved in our own community, but not much past it, and she should be.

1:07.0

But here's why I'm sharing this episode with you, because Cori shares today her own progress story how she got in the muck and the mess of trying to figure out who she was as a creative as a woman as a mother.

1:21.0

One of my personal favorite takeaways from this interview is how

1:25.3

Cori shares that mess has to be a part of this process of uncovering that

1:29.8

sense of identity inside of ourselves and the gifts and the talents and the skills and the

1:34.3

ambitions and the dreams that come a part of that. She has lived this, she has exemplified it.

1:39.8

Cori is one of my childhood turned adult heroes.

1:43.4

She is someone I've always looked up to

1:44.9

because of how she has been different and fully herself

1:48.8

and ways that I didn't fully recognize

1:51.1

as a child that I was connecting to and longing to have more of in my life,

1:55.0

especially when for much of my childhood I feel like I was that person who was so scared of the mess.
